Giving
Thank you for your faithful support of First Church. Your support directly impacts the lives of others and allows ministry to happen. However, much more than that, your generosity is truly an act of worship. Just like the songs or hymns we sing on Sunday, just like quiet devotion and prayer life, giving of our resources back to God is an act of worship and faith. It is about our relationship with and our trust in Jesus. Giving to support His work here on earth is merely our response to the gift He has given us for all eternity. It is through the giving of ourselves - our time, our talents and our treasures that we express reliance upon God.
A "tithe" literally means 10%. The first 10% of of your income.
An "offering" would be anything above that. An "offering" would be any time God places it on your heart to support a particular part of the ministry, above and beyond your regular commitment. Blanket Sunday, Youth Trips, One Great Hour of Sharing, etc. are great examples of "offerings".

FAQ
In the book of Malachi He says:
"Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house, and try Me now in this,” says the LORD of hosts, “ If I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you such blessings, than there will not be room enough to receive it."
FAQ
Yes, in ways FAR beyond financial measure. Only in North America do we equate "blessings" with "BMWs". If your heart is to "give to get", well, one of Paul's letters to the Corinthian church addresses that:
"But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver."
It is not a question of "What will I get out of this." but rather a statement that "I trust you, Lord and I believe that you know what is best for me." It is in demonstrating trust that we find blessings.
FAQ
God is more concerned about the condition of our heart than the size of our wallets. Remember, He "owns the cattle on a thousand hills". He can accomplish anything He wants, but what He wants most of all is our obedience and trust. We are told to give faithfully, regularly, sacrificially and cheerfully. "let each one give as he purposes in his heart". That means when you support the ministry of First Church, and you see the faces of the children in VBS, or Sunday School, or see someone coming out of a recovery meeting, or Adult Class, or any other ministry here, you know in your heart that you are a part of making that happen. This is much more important than a number on a calculator.
FAQ
If your goal is to be faithful in your giving, our goal is to help. By giving online, you can set up automatic, recurring transactions. The amount you specify will be automatically deducted from your checking account or appear on your credit card statement. Recurring gifts allow you to "put God first in your finances".
This also aids in church budgeting. Often times when people "miss" worship for one reason or another, that impacts their giving. Especially in the summer months. As you well know, First Church is an active place. Ministry happens here 365 days out of the year, however, we only collect an offering on 52 of those days. Even one slow week can have an impact.
If you are a "snow-bird", by setting up the recurring transaction with the end date of your choosing, it will take the guess work out of your giving.
