Congratulations Pastor Jack on the 40th Anniversary of Your Ordination!

August 28, 2011 marked a very special day in the life of our church and an even more special day in the life of our beloved pastor.  Jack celebrated 40 wonderful years of service and the anniversary of his ordination.  The church was full as Jack was honored and a special proclamation was made by Pomblueribbon-constantcontactpano Mayer, Lamar Fisher.  Even Jack’s wonderful nephew and wife flew in as an added surprise and had an opportunity to meet everyone at the luncheon that followed.

We are so proud of all Jack has accomplished during his walk with God and are grateful that he brings his love, wisdom and encouragement to our Pink Church family.  So many church members recorded their own personal messages to Jack that totaled hours and hours of video. We were able to enjoy a short segment of the video, along with a fun photo montage of Jack’s life during service. Jack was given a full copy of everyone’s heartfelt thoughts and wishes.

A great day honoring a great man!  CONGRATULATIONS PASTOR JACK!

SILVER ANGEL
PATRICIA DAWSON
In Memoriam
1927 - 2012

On Friday, June 10, 2011, ten outstanding senior volunteers, representing nine different local churches, were honored at the 4th Annual Silver Angel Awards, hosted by John Knox Village of Pompano Beach. As a not-for-profit organization, John Knox Village is committed to developing and maintaining longstanding relationships with local places of worship. The commemorative celebration allows the churches the opportunity to reward their exemplary senior volunteers who have selflessly aided others with their time, talents, and efforts. The event acknowledges people who quietly go about their good works in a true sense of humanitarian charity.

We are so proud that our own Patricia Dawson was one of the 10 honorees!
Pat Dawson

Since its inception in 2008, thirty-nine “Silver Angels” have been rewarded for their excellent commitment to their congregations. Patricia has continued this legacy and we are lucky to have her. Pat has served as a Deacon, including Moderator, in addition to her service as President of Presbyterian Women, a Circle Chair, and remains devoted to our First Presbyterian Church. When Pastor Jack first met Pat, she was portraying a joyful red-haired clown named “Jingles.” Inquiring, “Jingles” responded, “Oh yes, Jingles goes everywhere, into children’s wards at hospitals, at fairs, and all kinds of places. Jingles just shows up!”

For those who may not know Pat, for several years, she volunteered in our Preschool Ministries as a Storyteller! Ms.Pat came in every week to tell awesome stories, complete with her puppet friends. When health issues intervened, Ms. Pat continued to read stories onto tapes at home, so our children can “read” a book all by themselves. At the end of each story, Ms. Pat would say a prayer. Anytime we saw a child with the headphones on reading one of “Ms. Pat’s books”, we would watch for the end of the book. Each child would close their eyes and bow their heads while saying a prayer with Ms. Pat. We love Ms. Pat and continue to have her picture (with her puppets) hanging in our reading centers!

Throughout her life, Patricia Dawson has faced enormous obstacles. She has experienced numerous set-backs.However,she has remained cheerful in the face of overwhelming odds. Pat is faithful, believing that God is with her every step of the way. Her desire and commitment to the women members of First Presbyterian Church, who otherwise might be overlooked, makes her a treasured humanitarian. The stories of her helpfulness, her sacrifice to others, and willingness to go the “second” mile for those in need are the reasons Patricia Dawson is a Silver Angel.
