titles_all_aboutsessionThe Session is an elected and ordained board of active elders, charged to serve the church. They are responsible for the mission and government of First Presbyterian Church.

The Session entrusts to the Board of Deacons the care of the First Church family and to the B
oard of Trustees the care of the First Church property and management of funds. All are subject to the authority of the Session and under the provisions of the Constitution of the Presbyterian Church (USA)

The members of the Session, Trustees, Deacons and Foundation are nominated by the Nominating Committee and approved by the congregation at an annual congregational meeting. Board members generally serve a three year term. Each board had committees through which they do their work. Many of these committees are open for members from the congregation at-large.

titles_all_aboutdeacons"It is the duty of Deacons, first of all, to minister to those who are in need, to the sick, to the friendless, and to any who may be in distress. They shall assume such other duties as may be delegated to them from time to time by the Session."

VISITATIONS
“I was sick and you visited me…” Matthew 25:36
Hospital Visitation:  Deacons assist the church staff by visiting friends and members in the hospital.
Homebound Visitation: Deacons visit friends and members who are homebound. They pray with them, help them with chores, errands or do whatever they need most.

OFFICE DUTY
“Share with God’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality…” Romans 12:13
The Deacons act as receptionists in the church office every Sunday, answering the phone and assisting people however possible.

PEW DUTY
Because of your unfailing love, I can enter your house; I will worship at your Temple with deepest awe. Psalm 5:7
Each week the Deacons clear the church pews of litter and keep them supplied with welcome pads, offering envelopes, pencils, Bibles and hymnals.

FELLOWSHIP
The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. 2 Corinthians 13:14
The third Sunday of each week, the Deacons host the Sunday Fellowship. They bring baked goods and snacks and prepare and serve coffee and juice for the whole congregation to enjoy after services.

ST. LAURENCE CHAPEL
“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat,” Matthew 26:35
Each week the Deacons provide sandwiches for the homeless and hungry through St. Laurence Chapel.

TRANSPORTATION
“Some men came carrying a paralytic on a mat and tried to take him into the house to lay him before Jesus. When they could not find a way to do this because of the crowd, they went up on the roof and lowered him on his mat through the tiles into the middle of the crowd, right in front.” Luke 5:18-19
The Deacons work with the staff to schedule transportation to worship services for anyone in need. Transportation is also available for most Concerts and special events
